“The Gospel According To Bruce Springsteen” Book

There’s an article in Sunday’s NY Daily News (Sunday, June 22, 2008 – “The Gospel According To Bruce” by Ari Goldman) on book “The Gospel According To Bruce Springsteen” where the author the Rev. Jeff Symynkywicz argues that Bruce’s popularity comes from the
spiritual themes that run through his music.
Rev. Jeff Symynkywicz notes celebrities are today’s “myth makers. People don’t just want to consume popular culture, they want to find meaning in it.”
Maybe HE does (maybe ADULTS do; that desire usually comes with the onset of age and -hopefully- wisdom) but I doubt that most music consumers care to find meaning in music. Hell, you ever see the responses to critics who attempt to find meanng in music or film or popular art period?
Here’s a review by critic Armond White on the Bruce Springsteen album, “Magic”. Plenty of meaning here.
