Hair Weave Article in Ebony Magazine (MAY 2008)

Saturday, May 17, 2008  — by Wow Jones

Just read the article, “Guess Who Sells  Your Weave?  Koreans Capitalize On Black Beauty’s Big Business” by Adrienne P. Samuels in the MAY 2008 issue of Ebony Magazine and boy was I flabbergasted.

The article details the alleged Korean monopolization of the Black Hair Care/Beauty Supply Industry.

I’d rather not go into the details of an issue that has long perplexed me (who cares that Koreans own the lions share of the manufacture and distribution of Black care products?  Go ‘head and start your OWN if you don’t like it!) and I’d rather not focus on all the complaining by the Black folk in the article.  However, I would like to point out someone who is DOING something about increasing Black participation in that industry.

The article mentions an Atlanta entrepreneur named Devin Robinson who has written a book called, “Taking It Back: How To Become A Successful Black Beauty Supply Store Owner”.

Now THAT’s how you do it!
