Jeff Archuleta BANNED From American Idol?

So Jeff Archuleta (David’s Dad) has been BANNED From American Idol? I have no idea how accurate that bit of news is, or is it a stunt to bring a little more drama and heat into the final stages of the American Idol competition?
Well, I finally saw the clip of David Archuleta singing “Stand By Me” (included above) and…
All I can do is applaud Jeff Archuleta for protecting and guiding David Archuleta as he delves deeper into this TV show competition. Jeff Archuleta isn’t the Stage Dad from hell–he’s someone who’s looking out for David’s best interests. Those American Idol snakes sure don’t have David’s interests at heart.
In the May 09, 2008 issue of Entertainment Weekly, I read an article called, “Why Song Selection Matters” by Jessica Shaw. It purports to be a behind-the-scenes story on how the songs were divvied out to the performers on American Idol during the week they focused on Neil Diamond songs.
The story profiled EACH contestant and the when David Archuleta was profiled, the writer focuses on Jeff Archuleta and they influence he exerted over his son’s performance. The story mentioned that Jeff Archuleta:
- told associate musical director Michael Orland that a climatic lyric was repetitive.
- noted that Neil Diamond’s voice is a fifth lower than David Archuleta’s.
- explained when an edit to the song should take place.
- noted that the beginning of a song needed to have a “U2 vibe…”
I’m not sure, but I’d guess that Jeff Archuleta’s Jazz Musician background helps him be able to act as he does. The short profile also suggested the obvious. Young David Archuleta doesn’t seem to be assertive enough and he even admits that his dad Jeff “is like my translator, I have issues explaining what I want.”
Sooo…guess what folks? That means that Mr. Archuleta HAS to be assertive FOR him! It’s either he or someone else who WON’T have David’s best interests at heart. The folks behind American Idol don’t care–they only want to exploit David–hey it’s show business and young children like David Archuleta are RIPE for the exploitation. Not for nothing, in the crazy, wacky world of show business, it’s essential to have someone on your team who is an ADVOCATE for you. Nothing happens until you do.
For those who don’t know, Jeff Archuleta was penalized for insisting that David adding/altering the lyrics of the Ben E. King song “Stand By Me”. I just saw the clip, (included above) and Jeff Archuleta’s instincts are SO right on! By having his son David ad-lib a bit from the hit song that sampled “Stand By Me”–Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” David beautifully links the two songs of today and yesterday while daringly adding a nice touch to his performance.
