Bruce Springsteen WOWS Audience At Benefit Concert for The Count Basie Theater in New Jersey
Monday, May 12, 2008 by Wow Jones
While listening to WFAN-AM on Friday, May 9th, 2008 morning (at about 2am) hosted by Mark Malusis, I heard a very interesting call with some breaking news. A male caller (didn’t note his name, but he was probably a regular) breathlessly talked about his experience earlier in the week at a Benefit Concert headlined by Bruce Springsteen.
According to the caller, this benefit concert for The Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ featured a once-in-lifetime performance by Bruce Springsteen. It took place on Wednesday, May 7th, 2008. While listening to this caller’s enthusiasm and excitement about the show, all I could do was assume that Bruce Springsteen did his job. “Is anybody alive out there?”
The concert was hosted by NBC’s own Brian Williams and in the concert–Bruce Springsteen performed each song from his two classic albums DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN and BORN TO RUN!!! In addition to that, Bruce Springsteen performed the songs that according to Bruce Springsteen lore, “birthed” those albums!!!
Don’t know if Bruce Springsteen has ever done that before, but that’s quite a concept. Rapper JAY-Z performed each track of his REASONABLE DOUBT album at Radio City Music Hall a few years back and that was received fairly. I read that Legendary Rap Group PUBLIC ENEMY is planning to do the same thing–perform each track of a “classic” album when they tour later this year. We’ll see how that goes.
In all, this is quite a novel way to expand on the databank/database of fans’ private memories and imaginations.
According to The Spaghetti Incident Blog– Here’s the set list for the benefit concert.
